International English Kindergarten

Our Kindergarten in the centre of Milan offers your child an exciting entry into formal education with dedicated staff focused on the wellbeing and development of each child and state-of-the-art early years resources. Each day, early learners participate in learning activities within a setting that supports their full immersion in the English language in classes taught by fully native English-speaking teachers.

When older EY students leave our kindergarten in Milan, they are confident speaking, understanding, writing, and able to demonstrate their language abilities to a very high level, which provides them with a strong foundation for the next part of their learning journey. Furthermore, our early learning educators are fully-committed to providing a safe, enabling and interactive learning environment that supports and nurtures the social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth of each student within an international community.

We make a conscious choice to consider all students as competent, curious and relational from birth, and we believe that all children have a fundamental right to be considered as individuals, be listened to and be fully seen.

Choosing an International Kindergarten in Milan: All you need to know

tips to choose a kindergarten in Milan

What should I consider when choosing an international Kindergarten in Milan?

It is important to consider the quality of the Milanese learning environment as it is where your child will be spending a significant amount of their time each day. At Kiddy English Kindergarten, we have large, bright and open classrooms for our early years children to explore and learn.

The newly refurbished piazza area boasts a large library stocked with an array of children’s books. There is also construction, role play and musical resources on offer. We also have our early learning school garden where your child will spend time exploring and exercising with their friends. It is one of the biggest in the local area and has a beautiful outdoor atelier, as well as role-play materials, fresh plants and flowers, a quiet reading area and a large, sanded space.

It is also important to consider the educators who will be caring for and teaching your child. At Kiddy English, we only recruit qualified international English speaking teachers with a wealth of experience working in Early Years.

nursery or kindergarten differences

What are the differences between Kindergarten and Nursery?

The terms ‘Kindergarten’ and ‘Nursery’ are both used to describe learning environments for children up to 6 years of age.

Although either term may be used by institutions that offer education to children that are in the early stages of formal education, in Italy, the term ‘Kindergarten’ is readily used, whereas in the UK, for example, pre-school children may attend a ‘Nursery’.

At our kindergarten in Milan, we welcome children from 2 to 6 years old. Young kindergarten attendees are divided by age into groups according to their year of birth with learning resources to suit the needs of each developmental stage.

For example, the classrooms for 2-year-olds are organised and structured according to the needs of early years children in this age range, offering a vibrant educational setting for free-play and planned activities within a daily schedule.

What is the enrolment process for a Kindergarten in Milan?

The kindergarten enrollment process in Milan is similar across many early learning schools. Parents of pre-school children may decide upon a selection of schools and then visit each of them to assess the following criteria:

  • Content of early learning curriculum
  • Kindergarten environment
  • Quality of resources in classrooms
  • Kindergarten class sizes
  • Proximity to transport links

At Kiddy English, we have accounted for the above factors, and provide an exciting and enjoyable English-speaking kindergarten environment that is conducive to helping children develop their skills with personalised teaching and a robust early years syllabus.

The academic year for most Kindergarten schools in Milan starts in the first week of September and ends in June. Although the beginning of term would allow your child time to settle into their new environment, we are able to welcome children at various times depending on their age. Please talk to admissions to discuss your child’s enrollment requirements.

To enroll your child at Kiddy English, we suggest booking a visit via our website, or contacting the school directly for an appointment. If you decide to move forward with the enrollment process, you will receive all the information you need to complete your application, as well as a contract to sign.

What is the right age to enter a Kindergarten in Milan?

This question is a personal choice for all families. Kiddy English is a full immersion English environment so the sooner your child is exposed to the English language, the more they are likely to understand it. Early introduction facilitates familiarisation, so children feel confident to begin speaking key words and sentences at a faster pace.

How do I prepare my child for kindergarten?

Before starting, you will receive a welcome pack from your child’s teacher. Take time to look at it with members of your family and introduce your child to their new environment with the photographs of the learning space that will be included. All new students have an ‘inserimento’ phase whereby they will gradually increase their hours at school as they settle in. In the first few days, parents are welcome to ‘stay and play’ with their child.

What is the typical school day routine in the Nursery class?

For our youngest learners in our school community, the day starts off slowly, with families being given the option to arrive between 8:30-9:30 am. Children in all early learning classes enjoy a range of sensorial activities that are carefully planned by our skilled and caring educators. The daily routine includes small group-focused activities to develop key-skills such as motor skills, verbal and non-verbal communication, story-time sessions, creative lessons, and music and song time. Children will also be supervised while exploring the outdoor area at least twice a day. If you wish for your child to stay for the full day, we offer children in kindergarten an opportunity to sleep in the afternoons.
